In religion, art and ethics we are not concerned with the “essence of the cosmos“. We are in the sphere of Pure conception – Human all too human (1878)
Cortex
- Predict future events and imagine their consequences
- Prone to errors and misinterpretations
- It is common to have unrealistic or illogical thoughts or to experience nonsense emotions – respond as if it’s dangerous or upsetting
- Should be allowed to pass thoughts or emotions without attention or analysis
- Tend to believe that the real meaning of every thought or emotion
- Interpretations of neural sensory
- Of perfectly safe situation as threatening – causing anxiety
- Information coming from the senses via the thalamus is given meaning by the way the circuits in the cortex process and interpret that information
- Source of anxiety
- Practice rewiring the cortex in order to activate the amygdala less
- The first step is to recognize when the cortex is producing thoughts or images that lead to anxiety – identify and change thoughts
[…] With perfect tranquility the question of how our conception of the world as it is manifest to us, will be relegated to the physiological sciences and to the history of the evolutionary of ideas and organisms “Wesen der Welt an sich” – Human all too human (1878)
Language as a presumptive science – The importance of language in the development of civilization consists in the fact that by means of its man placed one world, his own, alongside another, a place of leverage that he thought so firm as to admit of his turning the rest of the cosmos on a pivot that he might master it. – Human all too human (1878)
Anxiety
- Is a complex response that involves a variety of areas of the brain
- Human emotion is produced by the human brain, and emotions are caused by brains’ reaction to situations, not situations themselves
- People have different reactions to the same event because of different interpretations
- It begins in the amygdala – cortex-based interventions / Logic / Reasoning do not work
- Although the search for a solution may be a strong focus on potential difficulties – It can activate the amygdala
- Cortex can modify before escalations
- Changing thoughts and images to decrease
- Essential to become more watchful and aware of thoughts and images
[…] He really supposed that in language he possessed a knowledge of the cosmos. […] In truth, language is the first movement in all strivings for wisdom. – Human all too human (1878)
