Dancing Eyes

Words are only painted fire, a look is a fire itself – Mark Twain

As humans are social creatures par excellence, Eye-contact is a key.

Many thinkers and researchers on body language and social intelligence, such as Darwin and Daniel Goleman and many others, emphasized the importance of eye contact, and that eyes communicate emotions experienced.

Attunement is a crucial part of social intelligence, and eye contact is key. Attunement is the “Agendaless presence”, The ability to just be with another person, experience him/her listening, without trying to impose an outcome or a goal on the interaction.

Most information we get from the eyes, come from changes in the aperture – What you see of the iris and the sclera –

All action is of the mind and the mirror of the mind is the face, it’s index the eyes – Cicero

So what is a Good Eye-Contact?

  • Ability to forge a strong connection between humans – in an instant
  • Joyful, Inviting, Deep, Grounded, Steady, Expressive, and Soulful
  • Similar to a dance – Takes two to tango
  • Process of getting out of our solitary selves and connecting with others – Shared Experience
  • Intention to give: Presence, Listening, and Compassion
  • Gauging where the other person is, and meeting at the comfort zone
  • Invitation to our inner-world

The eyes of men converse as much as their tongues, with the advantage, that the ocular dialect needs no dictionary, but is understood all the world over – Ralph Waldo Emerson
